What is The Mayo Legacy?
The Mayo Legacy is a recognition program for Mayo Clinic patients, staff and benefactors who have included Mayo Clinic in their estate plans or have made another type of future gift in support of advancing Mayo's humanitarian mission.
The Mayo Legacy preserves the ideals of Drs. William J. and Charles H. Mayo, who donated their life savings to establish Mayo Clinic as a not-for-profit organization to benefit future generations.
We welcome gifts of any amount for The Mayo Legacy. Currently more than 3,500 members have made a commitment to inspire hope and healing to patients.
Our members know that Mayo Clinic never loses sight of the fact that we serve the needs of our patients, and they have confidence that Mayo is a place of caring in the fullest sense of the word.

"The circle of compassionate and efficient care begins with the desk receptionists, extends through the nursing and technical staff and ends with the final visit with the physician. It is for this dedication and caring we feel privileged to be a part of The Mayo Legacy, contributing to the enduring ideals and unwavering standards of the Mayo future."
"I feel honored, as an appreciative patient, to be a member of The Mayo Legacy. As I feel I have found the best possible medical care, I am grateful that I am able to support the best."
"We, at age 80 and 79, attribute our extended lives to the very fi ne care and treatment we have received from Mayo. Our hopes for the future of excellent medicine – made possible through medical education and research – are united with those of many others."
"Mayo embraces each patient as an individual with unique concerns requiring the best the total body of medical experience can provide. We can leave no greater legacy than our enduring support of these practices, ideals and standards."
"The fund which we built up and which had grown far beyond our expectations has come from the sick and we believe it ought to be returned to the sick in the form of advanced medical education, which will develop better-trained physicians, and research, to reduce the amount of sickness."
